OneTap, a great way to avoid driving distractions

Driving along in your own cocoon should be an ideal time to think beautiful thoughts and enjoy the scenery as you pass. Unfortunately, many of us are almost addicted to leaving the cell phone open and can be distracted at any moment by what may look like a priority. It is not only destroying your peace of mind, but could well result in your death or serious injury if you overlook what is happening around you. if only someone could intervene and monitor all of those attempts to divert you and handle them in the most appropriate way.

Now a Calgary company, AppColony, has developed the ideal way for you to preserve your sanity and indeed your life while you are driving. It’s an app for your android phone and they will shortly have the equivalent for iPhones. If this is news to you, then the following video will introduce you to the answer to your prayers.

I have been one of the first 1000 people to be using the app and I can vouch for its effectiveness. It is very simple but does exactly what you need.

It mutes your phone and sends a message to any caller that you are driving. However, if they have an urgent need to contact you, then they are given a code to message to you which will give you a verbal alert.

The app is based on a GPS reading of your location and senses when you are driving and when you have stopped. In addition to preserving your sanity, at the end of your journey it gives you the data on how long your journey took and the distance you have travelled.

It is rare that an app does exactly what you want in a way that you like it but I can confirm that OneTap fits the bill for me. Congratulations to its architects and to the Cooperators Insurance which is supporting this excellent initiative to save lives and reduce driving distraction.
